On February 27th, the Cultural Center Convento de São José, in Lagoa, hosted the 4th and final Collaborative Workshop (LC4) of the project “CONVENTUS: New Perspectives on the Building of the Convento de São José.”
This meeting was a key moment to reflect on the future of the Convent and its cultural management, with the participation of representatives from the community, cultural associations, and heritage specialists. Organized into thematic groups, the 17 participants actively contributed to the development of proposals that value the historical memory of the space, cultural dynamism, and the sustainability of its management.
🔎 WHAT WAS DISCUSSED?
✅ Living Memories: Reflection on the role of the Convent throughout its history, including its time as a Primary School, and the importance of its preservation for present and future generations.
✅ New Uses for Old Spaces: Ideas to transform the building into a more dynamic and accessible space, including areas for exhibitions, artist residencies, a documentation center, and interactive cultural routes.
✅ Sustainable Cultural Management: Proposals for collaborative management, including an Advisory Council involving the municipality, cultural associations, and the community, as well as a fully participatory and efficient administration model ensuring transparent and inclusive management.

With the conclusion of this cycle of workshops, the ideas and suggestions gathered will be fundamental in defining a museological and cultural plan for the Convent. The focus will be on creating a space that respects its memory while reinventing itself to meet the new challenges and audiences of today’s world.
