Research and Collection of Documentary Sources
outubro de 2023 a abril de 2024
Arquivos locais, regionais e nacionais

Between October 2023 and April 2024, the CONVENTUS project team carried out extensive research and collected documentary sources on the Convent of Saint Joseph from archives, libraries, and newspaper repositories at the local, regional, and national levels. Among the libraries and newspaper archives consulted were the University of Algarve Library, the Lagoa Municipal Library, the Algarve Digital Newspaper Archive, and the National Digital Library.

Regarding local archives, documentary sources were gathered from the Lagoa Municipal Archive, the Archive of the Parish of Nossa Senhora da Luz, the Archive of the Diocese of the Algarve, and the Archive of the University of Algarve. At the national level, significant research was conducted at the National Archive of Torre do Tombo, the General Archive of the Congregation of the Dominican Sisters of Saint Catherine of Siena, and the Contemporary Archive of the Ministry of Finance.

This research enabled the collection of sources from highly diverse documentary holdings, resulting in the compilation of a vast, varied, and rich documentary corpus. This includes handwritten books, correspondence, newspaper articles, municipal session minutes, graphic documents (such as architectural plans and elevations), photographs, and many other materials. The analysis and processing of all this information will lead to the creation of a database that, in a later phase, will support the development of a detailed chronology of the building, exploring its historical, urban, social, and cultural dimensions from the 18th century to the present day.
