The Municipality of Lagoa participated in the 10th National Congress of the Portuguese Territorial Network of Educating Cities, held in Santo Tirso from May 21 to 23, under the theme "Smart Territories: Innovation, Inclusion, and Sustainability."
On this occasion, Lagoa shared municipal projects that reflect its commitment to the principles of Educating Cities, with special emphasis on the project "CONVENTUS – New Perspectives on the Building of the Former Convent of Saint Joseph in Lagoa."
🌱 The project was presented by Ismael Estevens Medeiros during the session dedicated to Knowledge and Sustainability, highlighting the guiding principles of CONVENTUS as an initiative for heritage enhancement and citizen participation. This project focuses on the history of a former Carmelite retreat, now transformed into a Cultural Center, proposing an integrated reading of the building that combines history, memory, and community involvement.
✨ By employing collaborative methodologies, such as conversation circles and the collection of oral testimonies, CONVENTUS has been reconstructing the different layers of meaning associated with the space, promoting symbolic appropriation by the community and reinforcing the sense of belonging to the territory.
This project stands out as an example of how heritage can play a dynamic role in innovation and sustainability, placing people at the center of territorial enhancement and promoting active and informed citizenship.
🌍 In addition to CONVENTUS, the Municipality of Lagoa presented other initiatives related to smart cities, environmental sustainability, social inclusion, and non-formal education, demonstrating Lagoa's ongoing commitment to the values of Educating Cities.
📌 Lagoa continues to establish itself as a territory that values lifelong education, active participation, and the building of inclusive, innovative, and sustainable communities.
