INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR "NEW PERSPECTIVES ON FEMALE CONVENTUAL ARCHITECTURE AND HERITAGE"
21/11/2024
Centro Cultural, Convento de São José, Lagoa

On November 21 and 22, we held the International Seminar at the Lagoa Cultural Center, the Former Convent of São José (Algarve), which brought together specialists and researchers for two days of knowledge exchange and innovative perspectives on female conventual heritage!

As part of the CONVENTUS project, the event explored the meanings and historical and current uses of the architecture of female convents.

Some of the results of the CONVENTUS project were also presented by the research and coordination team.

In addition to enriching lectures, we enjoyed a unique guided visit to the Convent of São José, where we traveled through time exploring the stories and memories that still resonate in this special space.

Thematic Program:

🔹 Session 1 – Between Sacred Walls: New Interpretations on the History, Architecture, and Urbanism of Female Convents
🔹 Session 2 – Buildings with Memory: Other Stories, Meanings, and Uses of Conventual Architecture
🔹 Session 3 – Heritage in the Plural: Current Challenges of Musealization and Collaborative Management of Conventual Heritage
🔹 Session 4 – Polyphonic Collective Visit and Sharing of Memories for the (Re)construction of the History of the Convent of São José, with the presence of the CONVENTUS research team and the local community
