On October 18th, the auditorium of the Paços do Concelho Século XXI in the municipality of Lagos hosted the 7th Conference of the Algarve Museums Network (RMA), under the theme “Building Citizenship: Museums, Mediation, and Participation in the 50 Years of April 25th”.
This event, part of RMA's Liberty Project and commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution, focused on the role of museums in promoting democratic citizenship and preserving collective memory over the past five decades.
Experts and professionals from various institutions discussed how museums contribute to cultural participation, the development of more inclusive narratives, and the contemporary challenges in ensuring accessibility and cultural democracy within museum institutions. Among the speakers was Lorena Querol, one of the coordinators of the CONVENTUS project, who participated in the roundtable "Portuguese Museums in 50 Years of Democracy".
During the event, several posters were displayed by museums, groups, and associations — including one from the CONVENTUS project, which is focused on the valorization of historical and cultural heritage and the preservation of collective memory.
